Please see the notes from March 2025: http://imfscorp.com/march-2025-nc-pps-recertification-notes/
4 hour Live Stream about “2 hours of N.C. Concealed Carry ‘legal issues'” (includes – as does the above link: the “Jury Instructions”): https://www.youtube.com/live/0iTdX3L_JDQ?si=djLOLOEbKO_lv8e8
Now ALL of the “New(est)” learning/training/instruction materials that the PPSB has gathered over 51 years are available for FREE! at their site: https://www.ncdps.gov/about-dps/boards-and-commissions/private-protective-services-board/trainer-certification
* The July course (of course) was very Yin-Yang And The Art Of [in this case PPSB] Classes. Especially regarding: “Bosses” (administrators, clerks, titled/ranked people, ‘executives’, license holders) are NOT responsible to *KNOW* this stuff (74C especially 74C-13 and ALL of the Code). You (guards/officers) ARE. You have to “help them help you” so that work is Team Work and everybody does what they “hold themselves out as.”
Many ‘things/topics’ got done too fast this time, or missed all together. (I apologize to all ‘participants’ again. I will not allow the disruptions/interruptions and tangents ever again. Notice has gone out to “The Boss[es]” IN WRITING. As stated previously – and now written: If you have been “cheated” or have “questions” let me “make it up to you”. We just have to ‘go thru Channels’. Get your Boss to notify mine and/or email info@imfscorp.com and we/I will arrange things upstairs in writing and we’ll “make it right!” -Dean.)
Missed: (another Dean ONLY THING): “Harry Houdini’s Magical Misdirection” (I’ll try to make a video – maybe* – someday. It’s another one of those things that once I put it out in the world for FREE* then how can I ask anyone to pay me for it?) It directly relates to “Encounter Techniques (Cover & Concealment)” and the 25-Yard Line Day: You MAY NOT ATTEMPT to brace your arms or gun on the barricade. And: ‘human biology, biophysiology, tendons vs muscles, *knowing* (not having information about, recoil impulse control and response.
Not enough time spent on: “Physics not physical strength” and more “that’s how bodies work” understanding and efficiencies.
Missed: the deep, long standing “Why” of starting close and moving backwards. Read the description at my “Speed Run 2022” video: https://youtu.be/BIx5zdJWtPM?si=ro9_FWM0k_srQUqS
Missed (classroom, a few [too few] minutes at the range): transitions [between hands].
Not enough time spent on: Weapon mounted lights (why and why not).
Missed: different ‘types and ways’ of reloading the semi-automatic.
Missed: “Willful speed competition” and “response to external stimulus”
( 07.16.25 add) Missed: “Humans are NOT fight or flight animals. We are FREEZE (and think) animals.” — I didn’t write a log/list on Monday when I met with a friend (Bill) to look over “Absolute Treasure” – his father, Steve’s “Gun Instruction/Training” notebooks. Amazing good stuff! Thanks “Steve Hugs.” One of the things that spawned about 40 minutes of good “teachers are students” learning (or re-learning): “Stimulus Response” It’s is a very long and complicated and ties- and loops-back on itself topic. “Defensive” (private person) gun-work/play is ALWAYS a “response to an external stimulus” and is ALWAYS “reactionary” (the ‘opposite side’ has a head-start on us; “action is faster than reaction”). I ‘think’ I said it once (while “not caring about The Color Codes”). It’s something that ties “legal and practical” together so very much that combined over all three days of training we should have spent about 3 hours on it. Not 3 seconds. Another “old saying” repeated in Steve’s Magical Memoirs that gets ‘us’ (see the very bottom of this, SF Security KIA/RIP) kilt on the skreets: “Expect the EXPECTED!” (I call it “Pre-Visualization”) So many ‘sayings.’ “Plan for the worst and hope for the best.” Oh well, “it’s complicated” and “I’m sorry” we weren’t able to “dwell” on this “see how it does/can tie all together” stuff. It’s important! One day, maybe, I’ll get it on the ‘Tube. (RE: Bottom of this page: “He Froze.” Watch the videos of the security cam pictures time lapse. [heart-broken emoji] ) [[ A *huge* THANK YOU again to Steve and Bill Hugs. ]]
Missed and/or Not Enough Time Spent On: Individual “Attention”
( Dear Diary 😉 ) This was a FANTASTIC and GREAT ‘crew’ or ‘group’ (individually and collectively) all three days. But… (not ‘deflection techniques / LIEs’ style) they can’t know what they don’t know. They ‘paired or grouped up’ and helped each other a lot. Every participant in every class ‘should get’ focused, individual “instructor/trainer” assistance. Even if – or especially if – it only results in hearing: I can’t find anything that ‘we’ can improve on here. “Good job!”
Special Mentions
Most “improved” (Zero to pass in 2 day attempts, “missed it by that much” the first time) and constantly “thinking ahead and looking around corners”: RDS (GTS) First 8 hours with “ill-fitting” gear didn’t slow [them] down.
Most “helpful”: Now, this is a tough one. Everyone! I said before: GREAT group. The 2 that stand out the most because they loaned guns and gear to others, and *gave* ammunition and [Beverages] and an extra-amount of their time: “Kayo [K.O.]” and CEP*. It is “extremely difficult” to not offer a Participation Trophy that is not that – but earned – to everyone. A couple more that stood out: BN (RRS) helped RDS (above) a lot; DSG and CWMcM* helped and ‘tried’ a lot. CLE – thank you again – for the many ‘real world relatable tales’ about ‘business, private (indemnification) -vs- government(mil or LE or both, immunity)’ and the one tale about “Instructor Complacency” (one instructor KIA-ed another). Everyone had an “amazing” Pay-It-Forward mentality.
*CEP: stuck it out through [bad headache] and ‘contributed’ so much related to NC “Employment” (not involving PPSB/74C but the ‘real world’ example[s] of we are ’employees’).
*CWMcM: *needs* to be in management/supervision and possibly Training (IMHO).
*JG (NCS): “honor and integrity” and “heart”.
** Life Interrupted so I’m going to wrap this up **
